Cricket Cities

The L&RCF is using cricket as a vehicle to promote positive physical and mental well-being in urban and diverse populations across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. We do this through our exciting new Cricket Cities project, which is led by our Community Engagement Senior Officer, Kajol Desai.

This new initiative is part of our commitment to championing cricket across all communities, using a place-based approach to ensure the game is accessible and reflective of the areas we serve.

What is the Cricket Cities Project?

While the project is still developing and details will be updated soon, the core purpose is clear:

  • Engagement: Engage diverse populations within urban areas through cricket.
  • Connection: Connect communities and break down social barriers through cricket.
  • Well-being: Promote positive physical and mental well-being through participation.
  • Cricket Cities builds upon our existing community work, such as the Chance to Shine Street and Wicketz programmes, to create a sustainable and impactful presence in urban environments.

While we are in the early stages of this new initiative, we are already seeing the positive impact of our community programmes.

A participant from our urban programmes said: “It’s just great to have a safe place to play. I’ve met so many new friends, and it’s a great way to let off some steam. We all get to play together and learn from each other, no matter where we’re from.”
