Junior Cricket

The Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Cricket League (LRYCL) organises competitive cricket for junior players across Leicestershire and Rutland, operating under the umbrella of the Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket Foundation. The league provides a structured environment for young people of various age groups and skill levels to participate in cricket matches and competitions.

Age Groups: The league caters to a wide range of junior age groups for both boys and girls, including:

  • Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 13s, Under 15s, Under 17s, and Under 19s.
  • Girls’ specific competitions are available, such as Under 11s Softball, Under 14s Hardball/Softball, and Under 18s Hardball divisions.

Competitions: The LRYCL runs various league and cup competitions throughout the season, including:

  • County Cups and National Cup entries at different age levels (e.g., U11, U13, U15).
  • Different formats of cricket are offered, including hardball and “incrediball” (softball), to suit different development stages.
  • There are numerous divisions within each age group to ensure competitive and enjoyable cricket for all participants.

Development Programmes: In addition to the main league, the Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket Foundation offers a comprehensive player pathway and various introductory programmes, such as:

  • All Stars Cricket (ages 5-8) and Dynamos Cricket (ages 8-11), which are national programmes designed to introduce children to the sport in a fun and active environment.
  • Chance to Shine Street and Lord Taverners Wicketz, which offer free, accessible cricket in urban and disadvantaged communities.
  • Disability Cricket programmes for individuals with special educational needs and disabilities.

Structure and Governance: The league follows the regulations set by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), with an emphasis on safeguarding and ensuring high standards of behaviour and conduct.
