Helping young disabled people become sporting Super 1s
The Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Foundation (L&RCF), in partnership with the Lord’s Taverners charity, runs the Super 1s programme. This initiative is designed to give young people with a disability, aged 8–25, the chance to play regular, competitive cricket in a safe and supportive community environment.
Super 1s moves beyond school settings, creating local cricket hubs where participants can attend year-round, free-of-charge sessions.
What is the Super 1s Programme?
- Super 1s focuses on developing physical fitness and important life skills, with a strong emphasis on social development and community integration. The programme helps young people:
- Play against their peers in a safe and supportive environment.
- Develop important life skills like teamwork, confidence, and independence.
- Enhance physical and mental well-being while combating loneliness and isolation.
- Transition from school-based cricket into a sustainable, community-focused sporting environment.
Who can access the programme?
The programme is open to all young people with a disability aged 8 to 25. The key requirements for participation are simple:

- Cost:All sessions are completely free of charge.
Equipment and Experience:Â No prior cricket experience or specialist equipment is necessary.
