Empowering teachers to deliver quality cricket in schools.

The Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Foundation (L&RCF), in partnership with the national charity Chance to Shine, offers a vital component of its schools programme: fully-funded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for primary and secondary school teachers.
We believe in creating a sustainable legacy for cricket in schools. By training and upskilling teachers, we ensure that the positive impact of cricket extends far beyond our coaches' visits.

Our Teacher CPD Offer

The L&RCF provides practical, hands-on CPD sessions that build teacher confidence and competence in delivering engaging cricket lessons.

Primary School CPD:

  • Focus:Two hours of integrated training as part of the wider “Whole School Programme”.
  • Content:Teachers learn how to use the “Chance to Shine Schools Portal,” a comprehensive online resource hub. The training covers fun games, lesson plans, and practical skills for teaching cricket in curriculum time.
  • Secondary School CPD:
  • Focus:Supporting the delivery of the Girls’ Programme and mixed-gender formats.
  • Content:Training often involves incorporating cricket into existing activities, focusing on leadership skills, and accessing resources that cater to older students’ needs and interests.

Requirements for Accessing the Funded CPD

The CPD is a funded part of the overall Chance to Shine school programme delivery. To access this free training for your staff:

  • School Engagement:Your school must commit to hosting the wider Chance to Shine programme, which includes the L&RCF coaches working with your pupils.
  • Teacher Commitment:Participating teachers must be willing to attend the full training session(s) and agree to utilise the learned skills and provided resources within their teaching moving forward.
  • Eligibility:The L&RCF prioritises schools in areas of deprivation and those with low levels of physical activity to ensure the funding reaches those most in need.

How to Book a Programme (Including CPD)

  • The CPD is accessed as part of the overall school booking.
